Knechtschaft, k\u00e4mpfte f\u00fcr soziale Ausgewogenheit, machte sich zum Anwalt der Mittellosen und wirkte als politischer Reformer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Er war Mitorganisator und Hauptredner des Hambacher Festes von 1832. Als Abgeordneter der Nationalversammlung zog er 1848 in die Frankfurter Paulskirche ein, starb jedoch bald darauf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Das Denkmal auf dem Dr.-Wirth-Platz in Hof wurde aus Mitteln der Hermann und Berti M\u00fcller Stiftung 1998 von Andreas Theurer geschaffen.
